2007, 2008 Acura MDX Identification by VIN Number
Yesterday I wrote a post on how to identify the various models of the 2001 thru 2006 Acura MDX and the Factory equipment associated with them.
This article is written to assist consumers in the shopping and purchasing of the newer body style MDX which Acura introduced in 2007.
From 2001 thru 2006, the Acura MDX was divided into 2 categories. There was the Acura MDX Premium and the Acura MDX Touring.
Currently, Acura separates the MDX into some additional categories. There is the Acura MDX Base, Acura MDX Technology and the Acura MDX Sport.
Below is the vin chart:
The serial number (VIN) on all 2007 and 2008 Acura MDX units start with 2HNYD
The next 3 numbers after 2HNYD are the critical ones.
2HNYD 282 This is the Acura MDX Base model. This is the entry level.
2HNYD 283 This Acura MDX is the Base model with Technology Package.
2HNYD 284 This Acura MDX is the Base model with Technology Package and RES. ***
2HNYD 285 This entry level Acura MDX Sport model with Technology Package
2HNYD 288 This is the Acura MDX Sport with Technology Package and RES
*** The best value for the amount of Factory goodies is the 284 vin.
Technology Package Mainly refers to the Factory Navigation System and Back-up Camera
RES Refers to Rear Entertainment System or DVD system.

[...] The last vehicle that our dealership purchased on Wednesday was a 2007 Acura MDX with Technology Package and DVD. Our dealership purchased this 2007 Acura MDX from AHFC / Honda Lease Trust, via dealer auction. It has a clean Carfax and is very nice both inside and out. I personally drove this unit back to Tennessee. From Florida to Nashville, this 2007 Acura MDX averaged 21 MPG on the interstate, at an average speed of 75 MPH. Our own Service Department is currently performing the 45,000 mile service and detailing this Acura MDX, both inside and out. This 2007 Acura MDX has a 284 in the middle of the vin. For those of you who don’t remember the importance of the 284 in the middle of the serial number, here is the link to that Accurate Blog post; http://accuratecars.com/blog/2008/07/25/identifying-the-2007-and-2008-mdx-by-vin/ [...]
