Honda and Acura Used Car Shortage for First Quarter 2009 at Accurate Cars

At first glance from I-24 West going into Nashville, it looks like Accurate is getting out of the car selling business….Not to worry, we’re just a little low on pre-owned Honda and Acura inventory units.

First of all, we want to thank all of our car buyers who chose to purchase their new Honda and Acura used cars from www.accuratecars.com last year. The last quarter of 2008 was a very good time to buy a Honda or Acura vehicle from Accurate and many took advantage of the opportunity. The 4th quarter of 2008 saw some liquidation of vehicles from Fleet Sales, which included AHFC / Honda Lease Trust.

In the last quarter of 2008 and the first month of 2009, we have seen a significant shortage of pre-owned Honda and Acura units. This shortage is some what normal because just as with all other businesses, there is an interruption at the auto auctions during the end-of-the-year holidays that include Christmas and New Years.

Now that we are entering the second month of 2009, the supply of used cars is starting to increase in numbers; but with certain makes such as Honda and Acura, there are fewer cars available now than there were in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Honda and Acura used car supplies are likely to be lower because American Honda will simply cut new car assembly production if the economy seems to be slowing. They will do this to preserve the value of their cars, trucks, vans and SUVs by not choking the market with too many vehicles. With new car assembly production reduced, this will dramatically affect the used car market demand  and within just a few months.

If you think the above scenario can’t happen, consider my personal story… In July of 1986 I went to Sanders Honda in Springfield, Tennessee and purchased a brand new 1985 Honda VT700 Shadow off of the showroom floor. While this bike was one year old, it was brand new and there were 2 others, just like it in the same showroom. I paid $2600 for the bike and the dealer kept a $200 factory rebate. At that time, Honda was over-producing their motorcycle lines in comparison to market demand, so they cut the motorcycle production dramatically. Within just a few years, a new Honda Shadow would cost more than double what that 1985 model had cost. Honda realized that they could make the same money selling fewer bikes and keeping the Honda name in high esteem in the motorcycle industry. With many car manufacturers on the brink of bankruptcy and our American tax dollars supporting Ford, GM, and Chrysler, This same scenario could easily happen in the car market….As supply decreases, demand and price will increase.

In the current economic conditions, many consumers are buying the used car over the new car to simply save money and lower their financial obligations. Many car buyers are not just asking, “what does it cost me a month ?” but instead they are looking at how much their next car will cost and asking “how soon can I have it paid off ?”.

We are going to the Honda and Acura Remarketing sales every week and we will continue to build our Honda and Acura inventory supply as quickly as we can, but with quality and prices as our number one concern. We will not rush to increase our  Honda and Acura inventory in a careless manner.

Our dealership encourages all Honda and Acura car shoppers to check www.accuratecars.com regularly for your next Honda and Acura used car and if you see one you like, don’t wait around. With production of new cars decreasing  across all non-union factories, which include Acura, Honda, Nissan, Toyota; it will get more difficult to find that perfect used car. In addition to used car inventories decreasing, finance rates are positioned to increase over the next 12 months.

At Accurate, we will continue to strive for perfection. Our aim will continue to be in buying the best pre-owned Honda and Acura used cars for our valued customers. We will continue to inspect and service our Honda and Acura used car inventory prior to marketing, so our customers can continue to expect Pre-Owned Certified Quality in all of our Honda and Acura used car inventory.

Come in and see why we are the best place in Nashville and Middle Tennessee to purchase and service your Honda and Acura vehicles.
