Dealership Car Repair Departments More Expensive than Independent Owned Full Service Auto Repair Facilities says Study

A recent study sites that the cost of average car repairs is 36.8 percent higher when performed at foreign new car dealerships than at independent owned auto repair facilities.

This study was conducted by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) and it basically reveals something that many consumers already knew….A new car dealership service department is the most expensive place to service and repair a vehicle. The study revealed that consumers in Los Angeles pay as much as 46.8 percent more in new car dealership service departments than in independent repair shops; but the study also looked at other cities including Boston, Newark, Atlanta, St. Louis, and Seattle.

Examples of the additonal repair costs included:

  • The average cost of a radiator repair at a foreign new car dealer (for parts and labor) was $325.99 higher than the same repair at an independent repair shop
  • An average additional cost of $138.92  to purchase and install a set of front brake pads on a vehicle at a foreign new car dealer than at an independent car repair facility.

Regardless of a good economy or a bad economy;  everyone is looking to save money. That is why consumers cut coupons, and why they take advantage of rebates,  and that is why they respond to THE BIG SALE.

But saving money should never be the number one goal in car repair. The consumer will always regret going the most inexpensive route because it always results in a less reliable repair.  Instead,  the consumer should look for the best value for the dollar.

At Accurate, Honda and Acura owners get the best of both worlds because we provide our service customers the best value for the money. We always use the best parts for the repair and service of our customer’s Honda & Acura vehicles. These parts include Genuine Honda and Acura parts, which we purchase from Honda and Acura dealers in Nashville and Knoxville, TN. We also use original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts that we purchase from major U.S. parts distributors. But most importantly, we supply the expertise that all of our technicians gained while working at some of the local Honda and Acura franchised dealers in around Nashville & Middle Tennessee.

At Accurate Cars www.accuratecars.com we strive to be the best place in Nashville and Middle Tennessee to purchase and service your Honda and Acura automobiles….just think, according to the study  a 36.8% increase in a car repair could make a $300.00 Accurate repair on a Honda or Acura automobile cost over $408.00 at some franchised dealerships. Value for the money….That is the key.

That’s good to know that the average cost of a radiator repair was $325.99 more at a foreign car dealer rather than an independent repair shop. My husband has a foreign car and we think there’s something wrong with the radiator since it started to smoke today. We’ll have to find an independent repair shop to go to so we won’t have to spend as much money to get it fixed.
