GM inside news is full of the GM Bailout. What ever happened to “pulling yourself up by your own boot straps”? During the past few months, I have been amazed at the number of businesses out there that are standing in the soup line claiming that they need money to keep floating and I have to simply ask….WHY?

The next in line seems to be the ill fated, poorly managed conglomerates that are traditionally called “The BIG 3″. In their day, GM, Ford, and Chrysler had some great cars. I think about those beautiful classic Cadillacs’, the Pontiac GTO, and the Olds Cutlass 442s. I think about the ‘56 Ford T-Bird, the Ford Mustang and that hot-rod Lincoln. And I absolutely love to talk about the old Mopar cars such as the Plymouth ‘Cuda and the Roadrunner….and with the 426 Hemi engine, that was the bomb. Of course I also like airplanes, especially North American’s P-51 Mustang and Republic’s P-47 Thunderbolt. I put the airplanes in the last sentence to make a point later in this article.

I was in 1st grade in 1976, when my dad traded in a 1969 AMC Javelin for an AMC Pacer and that was about the time that Honda and Toyota started running circles around the domestic car manufacturers. The first picture posted above is of my oldest brother in that Javelin but I don’t think that we ever took a picture of the silver egg (Pacer) on wheels. Oh, and the silver Pacer also had monkey puke orange interior. Unless you had a horse attached to that Pacer, you were not guaranteed of getting to your destination without breaking-down. It was very poor quality and very quickly AMC’s Pacer concept died. Today, you don’t see a Pacer too often and the reason is that they were not built right and they did not make American Motors Corporation any money. Now, if AMC had continued to pour money into the Pacer concept, the stock holders would have had a melt-down….Because it does not make sense to continue producing a car….regardless of the number of people that are given a job to build it, if it does not sell and make money.

It would be just like those airplanes that I spoke about earlier in the article. During their day, they were a very powerful foe and were a legitimate threat against our adversaries in both WWII and the Korean War. But when the turbine jet engines came up in full scale production, those Pratt and Whitney radial engines in the Thunderbolt and that massive V12 Rolls Royce Merlin engine that was in the Mustang, could not compete and required a significant amount of additional maintenance compared to the jet. Today, both Rolls Royce and and Pratt & Whitney make jet engines and they are still competitive. The market, driven by technology, improved and both companies responded correctly. If they had refused to adjust their product from piston engines to jets, that Pratt and Whitney jet engine would not be in the SR-71 Blackbird and those Roll Royce jets would never have powered the Concord for so many years at those unbelievable speeds across the ocean. Likely, both engine manufacturer’s aircraft propulsion divisions would have died.

Today, when we look at GM, Ford, and Chrysler, we are looking at an antique. Their engines are behind the Asian and European automobile competition, their body styles are outdated, and the presence of the unions and required union contract benefits are quickly absorbing their liquid assets. The last figure that I heard indicated that a union employee working in a big 3 car manufacturing facility was being paid, with the value of benefits included, around $77.00 per hour.

What does the future hold? Well, Ford, GM and Chrysler want a loan (at tax payer expense) and they currently show no indication of any type of reform regarding management or union re-organization. Just the other day a Ford executive said they need the money, but basically stay out of our business….What arrogance. Meanwhile, American Honda, Acura, BMW, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Hyundai, Mercedes, and soon-to-be Volkswagen are all manufacturing vehicles here in the US and providing American families a good paycheck and benefits without the interference of the UAW. In addition, while they are not setting sales records, they are also not asking for a tax payer funded loan. Oh, another important thing….Have you thought about how many of the BIG 3 vehicles are assembled in Canada and Mexico compared to the imports car manufacturers that assemble their product here in America? Who actually is providing the U.S. jobs?

My prediction. The powers that be will give our tax money to the “domestic car manufacturers” and in less than 5 years they will still be in major debt and will still be producing the same old stuff…If they are still in operation. The BIG 3 are under contract with the union to make a certain number of vehicles, regardless of if they are selling or not. They will continue to produce a surplus of these vehicles and the market will be drowning in them. So, my prediction is if you buy a Ford, GM, or Chrysler product, you are taking a major risk. Depreciation on that vehicle will be sharper than ever before and if you finance one, you better get GAP insurance....Because while financed, you will likely owe considerably more on it than what it is worth.

I agree with buying American and I do it every chance that I can. A few years ago I purchased a John Deere 4310 tractor that was built in America and Accurate Automotive’s Service Department just bought a new brake lathe over one that was $2000 dollars cheaper because the cheaper one is made in China and the one we chose is made in Iowa. When buying a Honda or Acura vehicle always look at the first digit of the serial number for the source of production. If the serial number (VIN) starts:

Number 1 It was produced in Ohio

Number 2 It was produced in Canada

Number 3 It was produced in Mexico

Number 5 It was produced in Alabama

Letter J It was produced in Japan

At www.accuratecars.com we care about America and always want to be viewed as the best place to purchase and service Honda and Acura vehicles in Nashville and Middle Tennessee. We are committed to being the best at business efficiency, customer service, and providing a great product (both in sales of used cars and the maintenance / repair of Honda and Acura automobiles). American Honda has provided North America with some great products and continues to grow the economy. With cars, trucks, vans, suvs, marine engines, outdoor power equipment, robotics, and even jet engines; North American Honda has taken the position of lead or get out of the way. That is Capitalism…It is alive and a North American division of a company still has it. I guess the “melting pot” isn’t just to describe our population of people anymore. It also includes companies that originated in foreign countries and assimilated to the American spirit of business ownership and “standing on your own two feet” Now that is American and I am a fan.

Title history reports and extended warranties help protect the used car buyer, but what protects the used car dealer?

If you have read a few of our blogs, you already know that our little independent, non-franchised dealership exclusively specializes in Honda and Acura vehicles. You already know that we also have a very competent Service Department that is made up of technicians who are former franchised Honda and Acura dealership techs. You already know that our inventory purchaser is also a trained technician, who has worked for both local Honda and Acura franchised dealership service departments in the Middle Tennessee area….But even with all the experience with Honda and Acura automobiles; you may wonder, does Accurate ever have a car that has problems that were unexpected? And more importantly; does their Sales Department sell those troublesome vehicles to unsuspecting and trusting car buyers?

Our inventory purchaser is writing the answer to that question above, with a little story that happened just 2 days ago on September 23, 2008.

I was in Central Florida purchasing some additional Honda and Acura vehicles for our inventory. During my day at the dealer auction facility, I found a 2004 Acura TL vin# 19UUA65524A060997 with a 6 speed manual transmission. This unit has just under 75,000 miles on it and because there were very few bidders left at this late hour of the sale, I ended up buying the vehicle for a very good price. I did buy the unit under an auction green light, which means that I was guaranteed for the day of the auction, that there was not a single mechanical issue with the vehicle that would exceed $400.00 to fix, if there were any problems at all.

After I purchased the vehicle, I went out to personally inspect it closer before transporting it to our dealership, nearly 700 miles away. I noticed that the engine, even at operating temperature, had an significant amount of upper valve train noise. Because of my experience with Honda and Acura vehicles and because we have previously purchased some Honda and Acura V6 vehicles with manual 6 speed transmissions that had bent valves, which we had to repair before selling at a loss; I felt that an inspection by the dealer auction was needed to void the sale transaction, via auction rules.

I was nearly 200 miles up the road, heading towards the dealership when the auction’s arbitration department called my cell phone to inform me that the clicking under the hood was just normal fuel injector noise. To avoid an argument, to which I was in no position to debate at that time, I simply requested a post sale inspection, which would give me a 14 day guarantee against the bent valves that were being identified as noisy fuel injectors. Believe it or not, the dealer auction approved the vehicle during the post sale inspection and then turned it over to my truck driver for transport to Nashville, TN.

This morning we noticed that this 2004 Acura TL had been delivered during the night. With only 12 days remaining to claim this obvious engine damage, our Service Department immediately took the TL in for our used car inspection. With the outside temperature at 61 degrees, the engine was cold and upon start-up, the upper engine noise was considerably louder than just two days earlier in Florida.

First, our Service Department performed a cylinder leak-down test and found the #5 cylinder to be only 65% efficient…..Bent exhaust valves can cause that problem. Because we had a post sale inspection performed, we are protected and the transport truck has been dispatched to return this Acura TL back to Florida.

Incidentally, I did not purchase this 2004 Acura TL from American Honda Lease Trust. It was purchased from another dealer, via dealer auction.

In closing, I would like for you to consider what you would have done in this situation. If you choose to buy a vehicle from a private individual or an unscrupulous used car lot, you have a much bigger risk. While this doesn’t happen to us very often, our Sales Department not only has the expertise to identify and repair these problems but a failsafe to fall back on when these issues arise. If you go to purchase a Honda or Acura vehicle that has a V6 engine with a manual 6 speed transmission, you need to know that a low price deal means absolutely nothing if their is internal engine damage.

On Tuesday morning we went down to Central Florida and attended a sale to buy some Honda and Acura vehicles from American Honda Lease Trust (AHFC), via dealer auction.

Because gasoline prices have finally started to recede, many car buyers seem be returning to the SUV and truck market. Many car buyers are expressing frustration that after several months of being fixated to gas saving compacts; they need something bigger for their family activities, not to mention they feel safer in a large vehicle. If you are in the market for a Honda Ridgeline, a Honda Pilot, an Acura RDX or the Acura MDX; the wholesale market price is increasing on these units but this is a good time to get in on some good deals. The higher gas prices from this past summer had greatly depressed the truck and SUV market, so these increasing wholesale prices are coming from lower-than-average market values.

Another reason this may be a good time to buy is because all indications point to increasing finance rates that are on the horizon. Many lenders have gone under due to poor book keeping and increased losses from repo vehicles. Many financial institutions are finding that the vehicle that they were holding the financial notes on were fraudulent. In other words, some dealers that sold vehicles just a few months ago, lied on the application about the applicant that was buying the vehicle as well as model discrepancies (financing a top-of-the-line model when it was actually a base unit). Because of the loses involving the solid lenders and because other lenders have gone under, which thins out the competition; now may be your best opportunity to buy and lock in a good interest rate before rates increase dramatically.

We had a very successful day. We purchased 3 Honda Ridgeline RTL pick-up trucks and one 2005 Acura TL. All 4 units are still under full factory warranty. They have clean Carfax Reports and have only been titled in the south.

The first unit is a 2007 Honda Ridgeline RTL. It has Factory Navigation, the Factory hard bed cover, Factory fog lights, and Factory Running Boards. We drove this truck back to the dealership and it now has approx. 27,300 miles on it. It made over 20 miles per gallon (MPG) and we are currently prepping this unit for market.

We also bought a 2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL with 32,916 miles on it. This unit was also driven back and made over 20 miles-per-gallon (MPG). With the balance of factory warranty still remaining, this unit has Factory running boards, Factory hard bed cover, Factory fog lights, and a Factory roof rack.

The other 2006 Honda Ridgeline is also an RTL model. With Factory leather interior and only 31,110 miles on the odometer, this unit is also still under full factory warranty.

Finally, we bought a very nice 2005 Acura TL with only 35,755 miles on it. This unit is still under full factory warranty and will be well priced in the market. Our own Service Department has already scheduled time to install a new set of tires and battery in this particular unit along with our complete used car inspection and normal service procedures (based on vehicle mileage) that we perform on all of our Honda and Acura used cars, trucks, vans and suvs.

At www.accuratecars.com we are comitted to be the best place in Nashville and Middle Tennessee to purchase and service your Honda and Acura automobiles. All of these Honda and Acura units will be fully inspected, serviced and detailed prior to marketing. Please feel free to check our website 24 hours a day / 7 days a week for updated status of these units. The status is found on the home page to the right of each individual vehicle in the price column. If a price is not listed, it will say “New, In Transit” or “Just Arrived”.

We just delivered an Acura RL to another new satisfied Accurate customer. On Thursday morning, a very nice gentleman came in from the Brentwood / Franklin area of Middle Tennessee and bought one of our 2005 Acura RL used cars. We acquired this particular Acura RL from American Honda just 2 weeks ago and we knew it wouldn’t be here long. This was a 2005 Acura RL with only 17,700 miles on it. This unit was nighthawk black with ebony interior and what really set it off was the Genuine Acura 18″ accessory chrome wheels and the Genuine Acura accessory lip spoiler on the trunk lid.

Our new customer was very happy with his purchase and requested that his new car be delivered to his house. Because we have our own tow truck, which our Service Department uses for distress towing (cars that are broken down) and our Sales Department uses periodically for delivery of sold vehicles, we were more than happy to accommodate him.

Between the time that our new client purchased this unit and the time that the customer requested the vehicle be delivered to his house, we had the time to:

obtain the emissions test compliance form for the State of Tennessee

wash the exterior

take out the plastic (dealer please remove) film that we installed after detailing from the floor boards

install the floor mats that were fully cleaned with heat extraction method during the vehicle detail

fill the vehicle up with 93 octane premium gasoline

This delivery was easy…The last vehicle we delivered with our truck, was to a client’s house in Carbondale, Colorado. The two before that included an Acura MDX Touring (with 12 miles on it) to Buffalo, NY and an Acura NSX to Fort Myers, Florida.

At www.accuratecars.com we are committed to being the best. We take the necessary steps to seek out the best Honda and Acura used cars that we can obtain. Once these Honda and Acura pre owned vehicles are bought, we use our own Service Department ( Accurate Automotive ) to inspect, service and detail our vehicles; which is why we tell our customers to “always expect Certified Quality in our Honda and Acura Inventory”.

Having our own tow truck is just one more example of our committment our customers. We would rather own the truck and personally handle our customer’s needs than rely on an outside company, especially in incidents where car touble is part of the scenario.

We bought this tow truck in 2004 to provide even better customer service. We use it enough to justify the expense of it but no more. When we put a pencil against the cost of the truck, the fuel, the maintenance, and the insurance, it is a break-even expenditure. But what price can a business actually place on ensuring and protecting customer service and satisfaction?

I left Nashville, with the help of www.southwest.com on Monday night (October 20th) and went down to Central Florida for Tuesday and Wednesday, to obtain some new Honda and Acura vehicle inventory. Incidently, I love flying this time of year. Our Creator paints a beautiful picture.

On Tuesday, I purchased a very nice used car. It is a 2008 Acura MDX. This unit is beautiful. It is white with tan interior. It has Navigation, and RES / DVD. When I bought it, the MDX had 15,099 miles on it….Now it has just over 15,900 miles on it because I drove it back. By the way….21.72 Miles per gallon, using 93 octane fuel while traveling at an average speed of 70 MPH….And what a GREAT RIDE!!!

On Wednesday, we obtained some really good Honda and Acura units. We have a very nice white 2007 Acura TL currently in transit, a couple of low mileage 2005 Acura RL units(one black on black and one celestial silver with gray interior) coming in, an ‘06 Acura RL that is a beautiful white pearl with ebony interior, a 2006 Acura TL that is black with tan interior, a 2005 Honda Odyssey with Factory DVD and a 2006 Honda Ridgeline…..I think you are going to get very excited when we price this Ridgeline. But as many of you are aware, we always perform a complete used car inspection before posting prices….And most importantly, all of the Honda and Acura vehicles acquired on this trip are one owner, non-smoker used vehicles with a clean Carfax History Report and have only been titled in the State of Florida.

At Accurate Auto Sales, a lot of our energy and motivation (why we get up in the morning) comes from our customer’s encouragement. Many of them have told us about negative experiences they had at some of the franchised dealerships and the lower-than-expected quality, even in the ”Certified Used” vehicles. Some of these car shoppers even accused certain new car dealers of keeping poorly reconditoned newer used cars (offered at a great price on the internet) in their inventory to lure a buyer on to the dealership property to influence them over to a brand new unit. At Accurate Auto Sales, many folks have seen and understand that Accurate’s inventory consists of good quality used cars and if shopping for Honda or Acura vehicles, there isn’t a better place in Middle Tennessee to purchase or service them.

Many of our customers have also told us how easy it is to navigate through our website and see exactly what we have, and the information that car buyers want to know when shopping. I personally invite you to check out the www.accuratecars.com Home page anytime 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for periodic updates to our Honda and Acura inventory. Even if it is listed as “new, in transit”, if you see a used car that you desire additional info on, call or email us. Accurate Auto Sales and Accurate Automotive are here in Nashville, TN to serve the Honda and Acura vehicle shoppers and owners . Thanks for visiting our accurate blog.

Save money when buying your next pre-owned Honda or Acura automobile by using this simple but effective equation to determine the true value of the vehicle.

Accurate Auto Sales, which is a part of Accurate Automotive, owns the website www.accuratecars.com and is considered by many to be the best place to buy pre-owned Honda and Acura automobiles in Nashville, Tennessee. Accurate’s pre-owned Honda and Acura inventory has been noticed by many Internet shoppers, to not only be competitive in price, but superior in quality, when compared to the franchised dealers’ “certified used cars”. In addition, Accurate’s used car inventory of Honda and Acura vehicles, usually come in at a lower cost than any other legitimate dealer or private party seller…..How do they buy their Honda and Acura inventory, service them, detail them and sell them for less?

Our Inventory Purchaser writes,

“While I do not advise using this equation past a 7 to 10 year old Honda or Acura vehicle or in ridiculously excessive mileage amounts for the age of the vehicle; simply evaluate the Honda or Acura that you are looking at as a machine and the mileage as pro-rated usage.”

In our example, let’s take a pair of 2005 Honda Pilot EX-L units with Navigation. One of the units has 30,000 miles on it and the other has 75,000 miles on it.

First of all, use a 200,000 mile life. This 200,000 mile scale is for evaluation purposes only and is not representative of the true life expectancy or actual cost per mile. The reason that the actual cost per mile is different is because the equation below would result in the vehicle being worth zero, once the odometer reached 200,000 miles.

Originally these units had a retail cost of:

$34,320 divided by 200,000 miles equals 17.1 cents per mile

and a dealer cost of:

$30,871 divided by 200,000 miles equals 15.4 cents per mile

For every year of age, the cost per mile should depreciate 1 cent, so a 2005 model vehicle should depreciate from 17.1 in 2005, to 13.1 cents per mile in 2009.

Based on a four year old vehicle and the dealer retail cost per mile, the maximum retail value of the unit with 30,000 miles in 2009 would be

170,000 miles (which is 200,000 miles minus 30,000)

x 13.1 (price per mile (1 cent annual deduct per mile)

This equals $22,270

The same vehicle with 75,000 miles on it, using the same equation is worth $16,375 (look below)

Subtract 75,000 from the original 200,000 mile, which would be 125,000 miles x 13.1 cents per mile. Which equals $16,375

As we all know, the internet is a very good assistant in helping the consumer with the purchase of a used car. However, the evaluation of vehicles through Kelly Blue Book (KBB), NADA, and Edmunds can be very confusing and extremely inaccurate. The reason is because the numbers that represent retail price, and private party values are simply based on an average asking price that like vehicles are being marketed for, in certain regions. While this may sound reasonable, it is largely dependent on enough like units being in the market with the same mileage; to provide an accurate average price.

In closing: Since 1997, Accurate Automotive has always excelled in providing good quality repairs & maintenance and great customer service for a fair price, to their patrons that own Honda and Acura vehicles. In August of 2004, when Accurate Auto Sales began selling used cars, the owner (who is the same guy that owns Accurate Automotive), was adamant on continuing the tradition of good quality and fair prices.

Street Savvy used car buyers from Canada are saving a lot of money by shopping at www.accuratecars.com for their next Honda or Acura import car from the U.S.

To our Accurate Sales Department, here in Nashville, Tennessee, it seems that everything is higher up North and especially in Canada. Last year we sold and delivered our first used auto to a Canadian buyer, which was a 2007 Acura RDX. Since then, we have sold and delivered several Honda and Acura cars, trucks and SUVs to Canada. These included a 2007 Acura TSX 6 Speed, a 2008 Honda Ridgeline RTL, a 2008 Acura TL, a 2006 Honda Odyssey Touring, a 2006 Acura MDX Touring, and the most recent 2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L, which is currently awaiting transporter pick-up (photo below).

The areas of Canada that received these autos included British Columbia, Manitoba, Edmonton Alberta, Calgary Alberta, Alberta, and Toronto, Canada.

The fastest and least expensive way to import one of our Honda and Acura used cars into Canada seems to be by one of our driver’s taking the vehicle to the border of Canada. We drove a few of our Honda and Acura cars to the border crossing at Buffalo, NY and even as far away as Great Falls, Montana. Of course, we also imported some of the cars, via transport truck into Canada. While Canadians could find less expensive car transport companies, when they chose the transport company; many times they were a couple of weeks slower than if our dealership located a local transport company to take their vehicle to them. Many times, this would be a small difference in cost for the amount of additional time required.

Our office staff here at Accurate Cars can assist all Canadian purchasers in getting their paperwork to the border and ensuring that their transaction runs smoothly and efficiently.

A few 8th graders from Ezell Harding Christian School in Nashville, TN used some of the parking lot at Accurate Cars and Automotive for a little fund raiser last Saturday. They are going to Washington D.C. in March and even with a group discount, the charge for each student is over $900 for transportation, lodging, meals and admission fees to places which include the Smithsonian Institute.

On October 4th, Accurate Automotive provided a little of the parking lot, some water, an electric pressure washer, and 4 pepperoni pizzas. The kids did the rest. They washed some cars, Accurate Automotive’s tow truck and even a few semi tractors.

In this day and time, doesn’t it seem like all you hear is how little the future generation does when speaking of work ethic….Well, this group of ten students, (about 10% of the 8th grade class) proved on Saturday that they want to go to Washington D.C. in March. They raised $230.

If you want to help send these 10 dedicated kids (pictured below) to Washington D.C., you can send a check made payable to Accurate Automotive or to Ezell Harding Christian School and put “For 8th Grade Washington Trip” on the front of the check. Accurate Automotive’s address is 111 Enterprise Blvd., LaVergne, TN 37086.

Who knows, there could be a future representative or senator in this group, and in the wake of our Nations largest hand-out of money taking place last week in the form of corporate welfare, we could use some new faces up there.

Ezell Harding Christian School is located in Antioch, Tennessee just outside of Nashville, Tennessee in Middle Tennessee.

Let’s discuss how to identify the best brands of engine oil, regardless of the color of the bottle.

In a previous blog post (link), we had discussed the importance of using the correct engine oil weight in late model Honda and Acura automobiles; and we had some great response on that article. I was amazed at the number of readers that responded in emails. I was also very honored with the local customers, who stated that they go to www.accuratecars.com every few days just to see what’s new in our Honda and Acura inventory and if there are any new blog articles posted pertaining to maintenance, repair and care of Honda and Acura vehicles.

Oil companies spend millions of advertising dollars annually to influence your purchase of their brand of engine oil. They will tell you that their brand reduces friction better, reduces sludge build-up, saves fuel, and promotes longer engine life…..But don’t all engine oils do the those things, regardless of brand?

In today’s marketplace, there are many choices of engine oil brands. In addition to the brand choice, there is also the option of conventional motor oil, partial synthetic motor oil, or fully synthetic motor oil. In all of these options, there is a lot of choices and confusion.

When contemplating the brand and type of oil that you want to use in your Honda and Acura vehicles, consider the following:

First, because American Honda Motor Company does not, at the writing of this blog post, offer a diesel engine in US production cars, vans, trucks or SUVs; always look for the American Petroleum Institute (API) symbol on the front of the motor oil container. This looks like a symbol of the sun and is often referred to as the “API Starburst”. This indicates that the oil in the container is specifically blended for gasoline engines.

Second, on the back of all legitimate motor oil brands, there will also be a round symbol that also indicates what grade of oil the API has determined the oil to be.

The API grades oil for gasoline engines and diesel engines. Gas engine oil is graded in a “S” category. Diesel engine oil is graded in a “C” category. This is easy to understand because these are the sources of ignition in both engine applications. The “S” stands for spark and we all know that spark plugs are the source of ignition for gas engines. The “C” stands for compression and the way a diesel engine consumes diesel fuel is thru the heat of compression produced in the combustion chamber.

Not all engine oils are specifically designed for diesel applications (API graded on the “C” scale) but they should all have an “S” rating for gas engne application. However, in both applications, the further down the alphabet the letter following in the “S” or “C” category, the better the oil scores. For example: “SD” oil would be a substandard to “SL / SM” grade, which is currently the market standard for all major brands of engine oil.

In closing, it isn’t the brand of engine oil that is the most important thing. However, the oil that you choose for your Honda or Acura vehicle should have an API grade of SL/SM on the container and you should always use the correct weight of oil (example, 5W20). When you do choose an oil brand, choose one that you will want to use for the duration of vehicle ownership. New cars and used cars are expensive. They are an investment as a tool to get you where you’ve got to go; and the motor oil that protects the internal engine components is a recognized vital ingredient. The registered nurse, the school teacher, the accountant, nor the insurance salesman may understand how the engine in their Honda and Acura vehicle works, but they do understand the necessity of using a good quality motor oil and periodically changing that life blood of the engine. If you use the correct engine oil weight, in an SM / SL API Grade, and change that oil every 3750 miles or 6 months (whichever occurs first), you should have a long service life from your Honda and Acura automobiles. It is a major key to the longevity of the investment….the investment that gets you from point “A” to point “B” everyday.

That used Honda or Acura with a V6 engine and an optional 6 Speed manual transmission could have internal engine damage.

If you have ever felt the acceleration of a late model Honda or Acura vehicle with a V6 engine and a 6 speed manual transmission, you had a smile on your face. While American Honda has always produced manual and automatic transmission equipped vehicles, in 1993 they offered the first Honda vehicle with a V6 engine and an optional 6 speed manual transmission in the Acura Legend coupe. A few years later, the Acura NSX was also offered with a optional 6 speed manual transmission.

In 2003, American Honda produced the final year of the Acura CL Type S with an optional manual 6 speed transmission and that same year they began producing the Honda Accord V6 coupe with a 6 Speed Manual Transmission option. These units, produced in lower numbers, can be difficult to find at times. However, if ever given a chance, you must drive one. Once you do, I think that you will agree that the 3rd gear is the quickest, when accelerating from a stop.

In 2004 American Honda extended the V6 engine with a 6 speed manual transmission option to the sedan line-up by offering the Acura TL with an optional manual 6 speed transmission and in 2006, they also offered the Accord EX-L sedan with an optional 6 Speed manual…These Accord sedans are very hard-to-find.

Now that I have your interest perked, let me warn you about the possibility of internal engine damage. As many of you may know, the vehicle computer prevents the engine from running over too many RPMs on acceleration. Even if you get in a Honda or Acura vehicle, while it is in park, and push the accelerator to the floor, the computer will not allow an over-rev, if it is working properly.

While the computer can control an engine over-rev on acceleration, it cannot prevent an engine over-rev if the driver aggressively downshifts with a manual transmission. An engine over-rev in this scenario will cause the exhaust valves to make contact with the pistons, which will bend the valves. To repair this damage, requires the removal of the cylinder heads for replacement of the bent exhaust valves.

See why buying your next Honda or Acura V6 with 6 speed manual transmission from Accurate Cars, in Nashville, TN, is in your best interest. Click Here.
