The interval for changing engine oil and filters is arguably the most crucial yet overlooked maintenance task for gasoline-powered vehicles. Around 2006, American Honda implemented an Oil Life Indicator in many Honda and Acura models. According to the owner's manual, the oil could be used until the indicator showed "15% oil life remaining," which equated to approximately 8,000 miles of driving locally. As a result, numerous Honda and Acura vehicles arrived with significantly worn camshafts and high oil consumption between changes. At Accurate Automotive, we use Idemitsu fully synthetic engine oil for oil and filter changes and advise not exceeding 5,000 miles between oil changes. Additionally, we employ a unique 'one-time-use' brass crush washer to protect the aluminum engine oil pan, ensuring a proper seal at the oil pan plug without over-tightening. Many service departments and shops avoid using brass crush washers as it slightly lowers their profit on oil changes.see example photo below) and engines that were consuming a considerable amount of oil between oil changes. Accurate Automotive proudly uses Idemitsu fully synthetic engine oil in our oil and filter changes and we recommend an oil change interval not to exceed 5000 miles. In addition, we also use a special 'one-time-use' brass crush washer. These crush washers prevent damage to the aluminum engine oil pan by providing a good seal at the oil pan plug without excessive tightening (drain plug torquing). Most shops and dealership service departments will not use the brass crush washers because it reduces their profit margin on an oil change by a few cents.
